Album Review of The Basement Tapes by Bob Dylan and the Band

Review of the 1975 Album “The Basement Tapes” by Bob Dylan and the Band:Album review - The Basement Tapes by Bob Dylan and The Band - Free Music Cataloging Database Software – Song Director

There is just something about this album that draws me to it. Songs like: Please Mrs. Henry, Open the door Homer, Yea heavy and a bottle of bread, Lo and behold, apple suckling tree, etc. Dylan and the band recorded these songs in the big pink house in upstate New York in 1967 while Dylan was recovering from his motorcycle accident.

Dylan and the band were just practicing in the basement and never intended for any of these songs to be heard by anyone outside the big pink house. Each song I think tells a story about the people in the house and the surrounding area. There is a song for example about Mr. Henry (Don’t ya tell Henry) and Mrs. Henry (Please Mrs. Henry) and many other people most of which have nicknames. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that Dylan isn’t funny. These songs are about close friends having fun with the people and music they enjoy. I heard Dylan play one of the songs in concert. Listen close the next time you hear him live, he may play one of them. “Please Mrs. Henry” is my favorite.

This is my favorite Dylan album and since he has over 40 albums out that is saying a lot. This is a once in a lifetime recording session that can never be repeated. If it wasn’t for all the bootleg recordings this album would never have been heard by the public. Since it was bootlegged so much, Dylan and the Band decided to release it to the public and get some credit.

If you had to buy just one Dylan album I wouldn’t recommend this one, but if you already have some Dylan albums and want the best
This is it.
